167: Stefanie Krievins on Disaster Response

This episode runs 31 minutes.

This Episode
David and Stefanie discuss disaster response, a 4-part model of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. Stefanie’s advice is relevant for Covid-19 and any future disasters your firm may encounter.

About Stefanie Krievens (in her own words)
I focus my work on cultures that love their people, want them to stay, and want them to keep being awesome. If I can help you retain your best people (and that might even be you!) or solve a sticky business problem, that’s a win for everyone. We’re much more likely to make big impact on this world when we work with heart.

Some people call me a Pro Troublemaker.

With a newly-minted master’s degree, I first set out to make a difference by working for a regional nonprofit as their one-person marketing department. I worked hard, messed up, learned a lot, and left.

I then finessed my way into a high-caliber HR consulting and leadership development company. I wrote job descriptions, crafted corporate training programs, developed compensation plans, recruited top-notch candidates, and updated performance management systems for companies from 15 to 1,500.

Later on, I then translated that work into a national nonprofit, where I wrote and marketed Christian social justice programming for a network of 40,000 volunteers and program graduates. But after scrubbing data for months, I realized that my career was nowhere near where I wanted it to be.

So, in my mid-thirties, I decided to make a change.

I sought out coaching and went back to my strengths. And eventually, I went on to complete Erickson International’s solution-focused coaching program. Now, I get to live my mission every day: Supporting individuals and organizations so they can get past their own “stuck and stalled” places and start innovating and growing again.
